Bridesmaids

Bridesmaids are most often dressed in a style and colour that complements the bridal gown. However, it is not compulsory for them to all wear the same style dress or the same colour, especially if they are of different builds or colouring.

If you decide to have different dresses, it is best to change only one of the characteristics. For example, choose the same dress but in different shades, or complimentary colours; or the same colour, but different styles. This means that your bridesmaids will be happy with what they're wearing on the day, and will have a greater chance of being able to wear it on subsequent occasions.

As with the bridal gown, the dresses may be bought at a ready-to-wear shop, hired for the day or made to measure. Hire companies generally carry a wide range of colours although not, necessarily, a wide choice of styles. Dresses should he cleaned or laundered between each hiring, so check necklines, hems, wrists and under arms for tell-tale signs.

Start searching for bridesmaids dresses about 6 months before the wedding, but it's wise to wait until you have decided on your wedding gown before making a final decision on the attendants' outfits.
